****Got a favorite kitchen feature??

I'm putting the final touches on my new 'final' list for a kitchen remodel.

And was wondering . . .

Do you have something in your kitchen that you absolutely love or wish you had?

wonderful idea, no more rummaging thank you

For mine. Search my name and 2016 kitchen reveal. Or. Just search stages 45 for others who have it as well.

Vi Truvian, I have a soapstone sink with an offset drain.

Oh yeah, Sherri1058, my sink's offset corner drain needs to be added to this list.

(Ah..we also went with as many drawers as possible..my long time dream. My sister in law has mostly drawers in her kitchen..each time I visited I was amazed by easiness and functionality. But since I'm not in the house yet, and not using the kitchen yet-I know I'll love these drawers, but the color-I enjoy already))

I love 95% of everything in my new kitchen. But probably my favorite thing is the sink - a Kohler Prolific. It is so functional, and huge. I also love having all drawers on the bottom and the drawer lights we added. The granite we picked still makes me happy when I come into the kitchen.

    Hands down, all drawer lowers.

My husband and I are looking for a place to retire in several years. He, innocently, said 'well we want some place where we wont have to redo the kitchen'. I said just assume in the price we will be redoing the kitchen because I wont live live base cabinets ever again. And, I wont.

My second favorite thing is my spice drawer.

I don't consider a functional layout a thing. It's more like the air that you breath, I can't live without that either.

All drawer lowers, spice drawer, trash drawer, induction cooktop, all integrated appliances, my sink with the romote drain opener, my 3 angled corners. Since I have designed my own kitchen, I love every single bit.

Must be a lovely kitchen. I'm surprised how many responded lauded the value of a single bowl sink. I need to rethink my choice.

All drawer lowers, my combi steam oven & my backsplash. I love all my lower drawers but am so glad another GWer inspired me to add these two large drawers, one on each side of the range. I use them to store large platters, a pizza stone, oven racks, etc.

    Large single silgranit sink

Lower full extension drawers, pullouts for storage, all with heavy duty glides

Vertical storage for those pans that need it

    A pull down faucet

    A full-size dishwasher

Those electric outlets required by code every 4 feet are wonderful

A fridge on top, freezer on bottom

last, but not least, a light on a dimmer directly over the kitchen sink

I bought my cabinets used, mainly because the price was right. They are Omega Morris cherrywood cabinets. I ended up loving cherrywood…

    In no particular order-

    All drawer lowers

    No uppers

    Recessed fridge

Windows on two sides looking out at beautiful scenery

Two sinks, including a mammoth 43" main sink

Dedicated prep corner that you can sit at

    Tin ceiling

Bottom drawers incorporate toe kick for more depth

    Very low cost (all DIY)

I was thinking about this. These are regular threads (favorite things in new kitchen), with lots of great feedback. The more time you take to plan, and the more of these ideas you can incorporate, the more functional and satisfying your end result will be. It seems overwhelming and each addition brings its own challenges - but if you have the time, take it. (And if you don't, change your schedule/deadline and make the time).

    Vented hood

    Trash pull-out

    More drawers

Stud bay pantry to utilize wasted space

Marble island top for rolling dough (I love the whole island!)

    11' baking counter/buffet serving counter

Large single sink (But not as large as mushcreek's clean-up sink--mushcreek, I've posted pics of your prep corner several times, but I've never realized the clean-up sink was that big!)

    mama g that's quite a list. A "stud by pantry"??? que " t

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

I love thee to the depth and breadth and height

My hands can reach having all drawers for lowers (with nothing out of sight).

I love my Fantasy Brown to the level of everyday's

Most quiet need, by sun and undercabinet light.

I love my walnut topped island freely, as I strive to meal prep.

I love it purely as I turn, pivot and step.

I love the functionality with a passion put to use

In my old kitchen, where nothing was handy.

I love thee with a love I seemed to gain

With that lost wall, - I love thee with the smells,

Tastes, joy, of all my meals, and if God choose,

I shall but love thee better after dessert.

PS - Oh, and the colors, I love the colors.

Single bowl DEEP sink and Modern Aire vent hood. Both recommended by this forum and both bought by me with dh grumbling about the cost. Now that we are planning our next home, those are the two things at the top of dh's list for our new kitchen. Thanks kitchen forum!

Vi Trivian, I left out a couple of things because I thought the list was too long, lol. I love my kitchen, just not as eloquently as pattisue (pattisue, I think I love you now ;). OK, the other things I love are:

KA mixer cubby, with cookbook shelves above

    Box to hide the MW

Swing out seats on the island

Stud bay pantry--I opened up a wall and put shelves in two stud bays, lined them with left-over inexpensive sheet beadboard, trimmed it, and added repainted doors salvaged from the former kitchen cabinets. The wall backs onto a closet under the stairs, so it was wasted space, and now it holds lots of canned goods, jars, and boxes, all one or two layers deep, so it's easy to see what's there.

Oh I forgot to mention the lights, the wonderful 3000k LED lights in the ceiling (having replaced two small fluorescent fixtures, one on a pull chain...)

Our MW is under the counter and is not a Microwave drawer. How I wish I had done that. My favourite element is my pull-out broom closet.

    Vi Truvian thanked blfenton

The large single bowl sink. Ours is only 30 inches but so much better than the double sinks and 24 inch that it replaced. The largest roasting pan fits, cookie sheets. Most everything else goes in the DW so I really wanted a sink that could easily handle big pieces. Next time the Kohler Stages...if I only new about it before finding this site a bit too late!

    last modified: 10 years ago

I am convinced. After hearing from so many very kind contributors, I am turning away from my double sinks and am jumping into a single bowl 10"deep sink. Thank you

    last modified: 10 years ago

Vi - your decision is not over, LOL. Now, will it be stainless steel, Silgranit, enameled cast iron, fireclay, or...? Apron front or undermount?

Make sure to know your cabinet base size. It will affect greatly the size sink you can get.

BTW, it doesn't need to be 10" deep. 9" is fine. Remember your countertop adds an inch to the depth.

firedajune , I don't think I can deal with this fine tuning of a choice AND the constant ranting of political campaigning. Please, let both be over!!

Silgranit... Easier to clean, more time to enjoy the views

Thank you, I'll take a look.

Mushcreek, any more info you can provide about the dedicated prep area you can sit at? You've piqued my interest!

Also loving so many people raving about all drawer lowers and no uppers. As DW is only 5'2" uppers are wasted on us mostly... And we have amazing views. So all lowers and windows is what we have been planning. :)

    MW drawer is intriguing me.

Sounds beautiful. Best of luck with your move.

doc5md- Despite dire warnings, I designed our kitchen with three (!) inside corners. One is drawers on the diagonal, one has a rolling bin on the DR side to use the wasted space, and one is a prep corner. I made a counter out of 2" maple and put an food-grade wax finish. There is no cabinet under it, thus, you can sit there and prep. The prep sink is nearby. Here's a pic (where the stool is):

    Beautiful!

I love all the info in posts like this one. I followed the huge single sink in my 2009 remodel, it was gorgeous and great for several reasons. I always did miss not being able to fill a sink with warm soapy water though. I did not like the idea of a plastic tub to use when needed either. The kitchen I am using now (pre-remodel) has a 1980's huge sink, 36" with larger shallower side and smaller deeper side and I love how it functions for me. I am going to search for one similar, if anyone knows of one.

My list from our remodel a year ago:

Large single bowl sink (always had a double before)

The drawers for trash/recycle and compost have a mechanism that if we give the drawer a little push it opens automatically. Wasn't sure I would really like it or care, but it sure is nice when your hands are full of something.

    Pull down faucet

All lower cupboards have roll out shelves, but have mostly lower drawers

We did a cut out at the sink for a push pump for dish soap. There is a plastic bottle below that we can refill. It's nice not to have a soap bottle on the counter. Very handy.

Under cabinet lighting - very practical and love the look on gloomy days or in the evening.

A cupboard for my mother's old Sunbeam Mixmaster with the lift. It's nice not to have to lift that myself.

We put all of our knives in one shallow drawer and got a flat wood holder that holds large and small knives.

    Induction cooktop

My remodel was 4 years ago, and I still love everything about it. The best things:

    - All drawers
    - pull-out cutting board between sink and range
    - pull-outs above the fridge
    -easy-reach upper corners
    - knife drawer
    - trash/recycle pullout
