Difficult to comment when we can't see the whole room. Would placing the love seat facing the fireplace be an option? Chair each side and turn the coffee table.

Agree- remove the mirror and put up art. Do you have a piece of art or decor you could place under the left shelf? may help the balance a bit. How about a throw blanket.

Yes, more photos of the space would be great. Everything is pushed to the outside of the room, to create more coziness it is better to have the couch in front of the fireplace and have each chair on the ends, possibly the leather chair where the other one is as this will fill in the space a bit better.

Consider removing the shelves and placing an armoire or tall chest against that wall.

Add a large piece of Art to enhance the look of your room and gives a life to that place.

Thanks for all the input, you are all so kind and have great ideas. I'm having a lot of mental block when it comes to this entire room, which opens directly into our kitchen, which is why we placed the couches on the sides...but I will experiment with moving things around. Here are some updated photos with a placeholder piece of art on the mantle. Tried to show the entire room!

Try the love seat in front of the fireplace, I don't know the space floor plan. Your pictures over the couch are too small (they should be twice the size) then move the chair closer to the love seat.

A piece of furniture (hutch type) would look nice in the pushbacks flanking the fireplace or base cabinets with open shelving above or another cabinet.

I don't know your budget... or if you are looking just to move things around and use what you have.

yes an open space does not mean you have to not have it cozy in fact it will look better! since this is a sitting room not a tv room, i would say if possible just have the couch and two chairs.

Good that you will try different options with layout. Agree, 3 pics over the sofa are 2 small. If they are something you like, you could try putting 2 of them under left shelf and one under right shelf, to make a collage on that wall.

Also, in addition to having larger pieces of artwork over the sofa, consider hanging things (shelves and art) lower--at eyelevel.
