Which sectional layout?

Went to a local furniture store here and found a modular furniture company that I think might have a combination that will fit our weird space.

We have approximately 90" x 120" to work with for a couch. We currently have a normal sofa, but feel like it doesn't offer enough seating for the room and would like to put in a SMALL L-shaped sectional.

I have put together rough illustrations of two different modular layouts. The only difference really is one has an extended armless chaise thing, and the other one is a standard sofa.

The armless one feels a bit more "open" to the room than the one with an arm.

Not really sure what to do with a rug or the two chairs, either. Stupid fireplace makes this room so difficult!

This is the sofa we're looking at with the extended chaise thing. We would basically be getting this, with the thing on the left removed, and then reversed.

It depends on how you use your furniture. The armless one looks nice in a photo, but I think having arms is so much more comfortable so you can lean sideways, support arms when reading, etc. Arms also give you more than just one corner to cuddle into, which is especially nice with young kids.

TOUGH ROOM! Not sure you are gaining much with the extended chais I would go armless close to the TV and with an arm on the other side. If you turned your current sofa to under the window, it would give you a great visual on how the sectional would look along that wall. As small as it will be, you may have VERY cosy seating for 4.

Your new layout with chairs on the other side of the fireplace facing sectional is best possible and the ottomans are a great idea as well. I'm not seeing any lighting. Can you mount a cool swing arm on the wall by the sofa?

Thanks for the input! I am leaning towards an arm for function but my husband is leaning towards armless. Maybe we will play paper, rock, scissors :)

The room IS so tough!! Unfortunately there wasn't much we could do because we were reconstructing an historic miners shack...had to keep the same dimensions! Even the same smaller window size. The rest of the house (new part) is much easier to furnish, thankfully.

Got the armless one due to it being in stock... The other arrangement would have taken two months to get here and I had a football season deadline to get the other couch into the basement or my husband was going to bring out his hideous recliner from storage!

Just got it delivered... Need to move run around and turn the two chairs towards the couch... But I think it looks nice so far!

I'm going to get one of those large padded ottomans to go with the couch (better for baby learning to walk) and get those tray tables that slide under the couch to put at each end... Sort of like arms!
