Stems black and plant dying

Hello, I brought 4 rooted samples of my great aunts roses back from Yakima, Washington to to Escondido, ca. She told me these were her grandmothers - my great aunt is 96. I've killed 3 of the 4 and need to keep this one alive.

It's in a pot and was doing well and flowering up to recently. There's even a bud on it now but, the stems have been turning black and I'm down to just the remaining 2.

I've trimmed the black stems off below the black discoloration and applied a finger load of elmer glue to prevent anything from using this cut a access. Cleaned the debris from the top surface of the potting soil and waiting until dusk to spray with a store bought rose treatment.

Any advise, guidance or direction is appreciated.

I would post this on the Rose forum, you will probably get a bigger response. I'm not sure what to tell you. I am wondering should you change the potting soil? What are you going to spray on it?

Hello and thank you for the response, I sprayed Bayer

advance rose and flower insect killer. I'm considering planting her into the ground. I'll seek out the rose specific section on here - my first post and from reviewing existing posts - looks to be a good place for advice. Thanks again

I'm sure you will get the answers you need to help your rose flourish. I'm not sure I would spray a baby rose with any insect killer, I've been told not to spray newly planted roses. Good luck!

Thank you for the heads up. I reposted this on a rose forum board as you suggested. This plant has been in this same por for aporox. 3 yrs. It was doing well just prior to its current downhill decline.

It's been really hot. I'm next door to you in SanMarcos. I have put my potted roses in dappled shade for now. The heat makes my pots so hot that the roots cook. Lisa

Your welcome! Also, when it cools down remember to slowly get them used to full sun again. I've made the mistake of just putting them right back into full sun once the temps went down 10-15 degrees, instant leaf scorch! I now do it slowly, moving into more and more sun over at least a weeks time. Lisa
