Keep on pulling, then put down a good, thick layer of mulch, and then keep pulling whatever comes up. Eventually you'll make some headway, although you'll never be entirely rid of them.

We never get rid of this very common plant because it is a prolific seed producer and the birds spread them around everywhere. They pull easily although you can leave a bit of root behind that can grow into a new plant.

Mulches can help, but will not be a total solution.

Mow/pull before it's able to make seeds. The seeds are flung faraway from the mama plant through explosive dehiscence. One can either have a LOT of O. stricta, or none. "Just a little" is only an option the first year or 2. Letting just 1 plant fling seeds means you'll be pulling many more sprouts in following years. This is one I pull as soon as I see it, never let it "get a little bigger to add more material to compost." It starts making/flinging seeds too quickly to allow that.
