Thx for the info just wondering what it is and should I prune and when to do that. Would like to encourage more flowers. And maybe how often to water if at all. Can't seam to find any simaler trees on Google would like to know what it is

BC, okay, probably not catalpa, possibly southern magnolia, but I'm not sure it would be in fruit now, or ever for that matter in your climate. Definitely need pix.

Catalpa is perfectly likely in southern BC.

Never been to the PNW, so don't really know whats common.

Could it be quince or medlar?

Probably catalpa. Another possibility is crepe myrtle 'natchez' or 'acoma'.

How big is it? Are the leaves heart shaped? Are the flowers rhododendron shape or tulip shaped?

Jack, it would be helpful if you (at least) tried to describe the flowers, the weird fruit, and the leaves.

Can you take a picture?

'Weird' does sound like Magnolia fruit. We get a lot of requests to id them. But pictures are needed, or at least further description and some attempt to check the tree against images of people's suggestions.

Is it evergreen or deciduous? We really do need a picture. Magnolia Grandiflora seems to fit your description but without a picture, that cannot be confirmed.

Could also be a Stewartia. These are pretty common in the PNW and both S. pseudocamellia and S. monadelpha produce large white flowers in early summer, followed by largish round seed pods that start out green but become a reddish brown.

But again, without a photo of the tree and its fruits, we are all just guessing ;-))

nothin' weird about a Southern Magnolia, give 'em plenty of room to grow. The OP and all the rest of us have seen them countless times, that is if you've ever looked on the old $20 bill, the ones at the White House were attributed to Andrew Jackson. They're much sought after during the holidays for decorating.
