The vast majority of the arbor is constructed of redwood. Redwood is a readily available and desirable wood material here in California and other western states. Because of chemical consistency including tannin, is less subject to rot and termite infestation. Another wood used for outdoor construction is cedar.

This redwood was air dried, primed and painted for additional protection as well as for esthetics.
