Round chargers with square plates could be a problem , IMO square plates are more informal so probably would not use chargers anyway. I like square or rectangular plates for some food but i also own 8 sets of 12 place setting dishes they are a bit of a thing with me. I think if i was only going to have one shape i would go round in a really good china

I have both and agree round could be a better choice...if you have to choose between the two. If not, it's fun to have some of each. My mother-in-law had a family business that sold china, crystal and silver for years. We have an inventory of Lenox, Waterford, etc. up the ying-yang. Honestly, my preference is plain white dishware. Food presentation is simply at its best when it comes to white dishes...round and square.

Thank you for your thoughts. We will go with white whether it is square or round. Incidentally I have both Lenox and Waterford and love them both!
