Two sided wood burning fireplace

I am remodeling a house with a big brick "wall" with a fireplace on one side (the fireplace opens to the den, the back is in the kitchen). I would like to open the back of the existing fireplace so it is a two sided, wood burning fireplace. Has anyone had experience with something like this? I am worried the fire won't draw well and I won't be able to use the fireplace at all.

    You need to rebuild it, or put in an insert designed for that. The firebox will not work if you just open the back of the fireplace. Not to mention the structural implications of placing a hole in a heavy masonry structure.
