Need advise on Entry Door

I'm so excited I'm finally getting new windows on the rest of the house so all my windows in the front match. We are putting double hung windows where the old casements are to match the ones on the left side. My question, would this craftman front door work with the windows or since the cabin is so small should I do one without windows in the door. I don't want to get competing windows. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Is the window on the right side of the door staying? Can you post a photo of the house looking more directly at it?

The windows on the left side of the door are staying. I don't have on looking straight on.

Ok found one that is more of a direct picture. The window on the far right in the picture is what I am replacing.

    Here is the picture

Hi Dava. I'm a little confused here. Right now you have a standalone front door with a half light on the right side (looking from the street). The door you're showing us as a possible replacement has two full length side lights.

Do you mean you want to use just the door portion of that sample photo or are you thinking to use the whole thing? Cause the whole thing will not fit where your front door is now.

The front door with only one side light

I wouldn't have thought of using a Craftsman style door on a log cabin, but I think it looks nice and don't think that it is too much with the rest of the windows. Perhaps someone can photoshop it for you. ( btw, I don't think the squared-off shrub on the right suits your beautiful natural setting. )

So the window right next to the door on the right side of the door you are planning to replace with a side light window?

Wish I knew how to do that, I've wondered how they show the pictures

Dava, if you don't already have a full length window (side light) by your door, you will have to cut one if you want full length. Better check with the door manufacturer to make sure they offer that door with a half-side-light option like you have now. I've never seen a door setup with that option.

The window on the far right side of the house is being replaced by windows like those on the left side of the house. My question pertains to the door and side light. Sorry for the confusion.

Dava- We understand the replacing of the far right side windows. The confusion is about the window right next to the door. It sounds like you are planning to replace that window with a side light and if so, will a side light properly fit in that space where the current window is and also taking into account what hsharrington mentions.

Yes it will with only one sidelight realizing we will have to cut it to the full length.

Ok. So still talking about that window, if you were to remove the window & cut the lower area to fit the sidelight, is the window width comparable to the sidelight. What I'm getting at is making sure that the current window opening isn't larger than the sidelight. And if it is, are you able to address that? I also believe what hsharrington is asking is does the door manuf offer the ability to order only one sidelight rather than a pair

And I do like the idea of the craftsman door with the sidelight as I think getting rid of that other style of window right next to the door will make it all look more cohesive.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes I have talked to my installer and he can make it work and yes the mfg does do a single sidelight

tedbixby--thanks for helping to clarify the door layout for me. Dava--so glad I can now relax about your door! I think it's going to look super with your log cabin exterior. Good choice!

Thank you to all of you!

This is such a cute house! Is it a newer build? Suggest you paint your new front door so that it's an accent. It should be brighter as there is a shadow on door now.

You have a euonymus shrub on the right corner. It's too large and when looking at the house you see the mature trees in their nature form behind and this tightly trimmed shrub not being cohesive. I'd remove it and plant shrubs or trees appropriate to your area. I often like a small flowering dogwood on corners to accent and soften.

Thank you. It is an older home. I like your idea on a small dogwood.

If older, than is the log exterior actually logs? Yes, I think a dogwood would do well with it's relaxed shape, it's especially nice on the corners.

Actually the logs are siding. You've really got me thinking about that dog wood. Thanks for the advise.
