There's also xenon to choose from. Between the two you mentioned, I'd definitely go with led. Even though both are cool tone lights, led is more atteactive, efficient, and versatile. Costs for led are higher on the front-end, but I think it's worth it in the long-run.

Are led lights from a store such as Lowes good?

Yes Nicole, I have installed a few different sets from Lowes with no troubles.

Definitely LED or Xenon, but not fluorescent. We had fluorescent under cabinet lighting in our old kitchen, and it was such a terrible color of light that I never used it. We put in Xenon puck lights in our current kitchen and love them, but if LED lighting had been less expensive four years ago we would have put in LED. If I were renovating our kitchen today I wouldn't hesitate to go with LED.
