A few favorite heuchera

I added Electra in the fall of 2014, I won't be adding heuchera this late in the season again. All that I bought suffered greatly the following spring, lost one too. This one still looks good this late in the season, it's still not close to its mature size but I think it will be good from now on. I really like the bright green and the veining.

I added Blondie this spring, I have two in different sun exposures. The one I have pictured has done better, it's in the sun from about noon until about five. It is a small heuchera and has pale yellow flowers. I love the myriad of colors on the leaves, green, burgundy and red.

My Georgia Peach still looks good. It gets mid day sun.

The heuchera workhorse is Autumn Bride. I have several. They do well in the sun and the shade. The foliage always looks good, they bloom late summer.

Sherry, thank your sharing your favorites.

I don't have pix of mine yet. This is my first year planting them in the ground. I hope they do as the beauties I'm seeing on this forum.

A question for you. Do you think that planting them in fall is a bad idea. Lowes and Home Depot will have them on end of season sale some time in September. I was planning to get some and plant them at that time.

I'm not experienced, but some people on other discussion threads in this Heuchera forum have expressed that theirs didn't do as well when planted in the fall. They survived the winter better when the roots had more time to become established.

My husband got interested & he bought 2 plants last week. I hope they have enough time to get established in the ground before our NJ winter.

My experience with fall purchases hasn't been good. I don't see what zone you are in, I'm in 5a. In 2014 I purchased about 7 heuchera in October, I won't do that again. They were planted right away. I lost two over the winter and the rest were so small the following spring I thought they were all a loss. The rest did survive but I'm thinking it's going to take at least three seasons to get some size to them. You might fare better buying them now and planting. I have had no problems with spring or summer purchases, they thrive in my yard with little care and some reseed. Here they seem to do best with some sun and drier conditions. Mine get very little extra water. I've had heuchera in my gardens for 15 to 20 years, I probably have about 20 varieties. Unfortunately I don't know the names of the older ones I have.

Sherry thankyou. I am new to huecheras. It is great to get info from experienced gardeners like you. I am in zone 7.

Being in zone 7 gives your new purchases more time to get established before the cooler weather rolls in. Your experience will probably be different than mine. It might help you to look through previous posts here. I know there are posts from gardeners growing heuchera in your zone.
