Corner tub in master is eye sore

We bought a foreclosure last year and getting down to the last of the projects on the house. This tub has stumped me from day one. It is too big frankly for such an amazing space, but more so why the wood???? What do I do with this wood to make it look like an eye catcher vs eye sore I've tried everything. This is so my area and I am frustrated I am at a loss here! (Ignore the floors we will replace when I figure this out)

Corner tubs are always an eyesore IMO they are water wasters, hard to get in and out of , hard to clean and so dated I agee gut the bathroom and do something fabulous instead of trying to put lipstick on a pig.

Since you plan on replacing the flooring why not remove this and put in a freestanding tub in that area?

Gut it all. No point in keeping that if it is never used. Put in a nice big shower.

Probably they wanted the look of a hot tub.

I also don't understand why this is a crisis. Either you want this tub, in which case tile the surround, or you don't, in which case remove and either expand other parts of the bathroom or put in a freestanding tub for nicer looks in less space.

I'm not seeing the eyesore....I would love such a tub. The wood surround looks fine to me, but of course you could paint it or tile it if you prefer.

The wall behind it is quite plain - have you considered a mural, artwork, or other decoration there?

If you don't use the tub, get rid of it before you redo the flooring or you will never be able to remove it and match the flooring. Without seeing the rest of the bathroom, hard to suggest what the space could be used for.

If you use it, then I would think you would want the facing to match the rest of the bathroom ... if you have a painted vanity, paint to match; if you have a wood vanity that matches the tone, leave it; if you hate the wood, tile. Replacing the tub hardware would also update the look, but again you'll want to match the rest of the room.

Also, if you like the tub and are mainly concerned with "making it work" as style, just go for an Asian-esque spa approach, and it would fit right in! Gray tile floor, maybe, and simple lines, or a pebbled shower floor, stone tub deck...

Corner tubs were big in the 1980's. Not so much anymore. Do you want a bathtub in the space or do you want to replace it with a shower?
