What ever it is it's lovely! I would start by looking at rugosa roses. It has that look to me.

It's certainly typically heathy enough (Conrad Ferdinand Meyer, with its tea-noisette ancestry, black spots, and Therese Bugnet mildews, particularly in autumn; however, with the two cooler summers prior to this season, mildew was all season and I had no bs on others) and hardy enough. So disappointing with lack of scent, though.

The prickles on some canes remind me of R. eglanteria or Harison's Yellow.

R. gallica Officinalis (Apothecary's Rose)

You know, I just got that rose this spring, Diane, and haven't seen it bloom yet. I'll look forward to next spring now!

The blooms look for all the world like Apothecary's Rose, but AP is a once bloomer and is known for it's strong fragrance. Duchess of Portland has almost identical blooms, but repeats. DofP has long, elegant sepals, which I believe yours has, whereas AP does not. I recently learned this from another commenter on this forum when I was trying to identify my Apothecary's Rose. Neither would normally get 6' tall, with DofP being the shorter of the two. Could it be stretching to get more sunlight? In any case, the blooms are gorgeous.

Thank you, Paul. I have what I suspect to be an R. gallica 'Officinalis' and to me, the blooms, canes, size, everything look nothing alike.

Kordesii seems the most likely due to its vigour, iron clad constitution, and hardiness.

ps: your collected Gallica could very easily be Officinalis, I think.
