My taste is a bit boring, but I still like the wall color calm as it is. I also like the judyg rug but not sure how it works with the chairs????

a soft yellow for the walls. your accessories with the gray and yellow will work out great. like the couch and chairs. very pretty. the room will be beautiful when you are through. yellow is so calming and still pops out.

the light gray is very nice on your walls. if you decide to keep that color, you can paint your lamp shades yellow
or put fabric on that has yellow and gray or just yellow. once you hang art work with some yellow and your yellow pillows, yellow curtains and some yellow in your rug, the gray will be perfect. i would never use the gold
paint.

Yep! These cushions are much better. Could you post a photo of the other side of the room for us? For some reason I don't think you should do two different paint colours, although I'm usually not against accent walls. But I'm getting warmed up towards a (soft) golden yellow paint. Can't really see what colour yellow is in your chairs. But is that not a colour you can pick for your walls?

On a different note:
how do you feel about your coffee table? I keep thinking that a more elegant one would look so nice in your room. A marble or a glass top?
And a floor lamp next to the chairs? Or a table with a nice lamp between the chairs. But not the vase with faux flowers on the floor.

Forget that soft yellow (my former comment). I'm suddenly loving a strong gold:

your present paint colour is really nice!!!! I think you just need to add a punch with a colour you love in Cushions or a nice throw blanket on your couch Coloured Lamps maybe , you don't have anything on your walls, maybe just to show the room on this site. Yellow is an awesome colour and the grey goes with everything . 3 colours is a nice balance, Yellow, your Grey and a 3rd colour perhaps a muted pink or turquoise. I always to go nature pictures to see what nature offers. If you look at burned log on a fire , you see the grey ash, the yellow and orange flames with sometimes sparks of blue. Or look at Flowers and plants , what did nature put together? try that theory it works for me every time! You never know what's out there!

oooooh........ am loving the "restrained gold" from carolins. you go girl!!! LOVE IT! DO IT! Here is my advice from years of design - it's only paint - you can change it later and it's no big deal. Have a glass of wine tonight and see which color reaches you on an emotional level (I had an emotional reaction to restrained gold) :). Try the cowhide rug in a black & white scheme. That will add a nice punch, possibly even distract you from the paint for a while. I love the yellow/grey theme, but you still need the light, medium and dark tones to make it work, and a few accents of color.

lol about bothandneither67's comment. But I know what she means about a) emotional reactions to colours and b) it's only paint.

Sorry for the delay guys. As you can see from the pictures my room is pretty narrow and snug. Not sure how the cowhide in black and white look though you got me thinking now lol

All that is missing for me is art on the wall. I would go almost gallery-style with it if you have enough pieces around. Or one large painting and possible a few smaller ones on the sides. Then maybe find a cool area rug that ties in with some of the paintings. I love what you have going though :)

I would add art above couch, a rug and some larger printed pillows. I would get rid of the purple solid pillows but like the idea of yellow, purple and gray!!

do angle the chairs slightly - they seem slightly rigid backed up to the wall.

I think you can use that gray/yellow rug if you like it. I happen to lean toward a geometric with a flower pattern. It is just the monitors that make it difficult to put YOUR money where MY mouth is. :>)

I would love to see this type of configuration in your space as well - centering the sofa and chairs to invite conversation. I meant to say that in a previous post. It adds a lot and makes the space look bigger. Also, consider the white shelving unit as a great investment piece. It could even solve your paint problem by taking the focus off the walls, and add that pop of white - get that contrast going! Not loving the conglomerate of mid-tone greys - too much competition of the same thing over and over. I would have done a solid cream or even something darker.... not sure yet. Keep us posted on your progress!

Very nice choice, have you consider the idea of adding curtains to the room, similar color to the painting to run the color to the other wall and complete the decor.

Am loving the idea of drapery too but am hesitant as it will close in the room. Next on the agenda is finding the perfect rug.
Ahhh but guys my wall paint is still in the limbo. So heres what i am thinking- go a very subtle golden yellow on 3 walls (except the window walls.) On the window wall i'd like to do a blueish grey too pick up the specks of blue from the art.
Also my rug will either be on a neutral tone ( mellow yellow/ white) or it will b a muted grey. Im leaning towards grey because i don't want yellow to take over...
What do you guys think?

Pariela With all the color you 've added to the room the wall color can stay as is BUt if you still want to go with it i love the idea of the blueish gray on the wall of the window Don't forget the drapes it will complete your decor.

You've heard me say it before, but I think your paint is fine as is in both rooms. I say spend your time and money on the things that you need (like your great new art). I like the idea of muted gray for the rug.

Ann/Eileen- guys i have to get a paint job done in my entire house. The previous owners have done a pretty shoddy job so irrespective if the color is nice or not i still need to get the rooms professionally painted. Hence this is my chance to pick the colors i want for my walls.
How does this combination look? Is the grey too greenish?

Pariela: I like the current color of your walls. I think what you need is the addition of an accent color. How about just adding it in a few carefully chosen accessories? Is your DR visible from your LR? I think it would look great to bring the coral into the LR and the yellow into the DR. This would really pull your color scheme throughout the house. I like everything about your LR - great furniture and the art selection looks great.

Thx ann! Yeah am actually looking at rugs in a similar pattern... Ive seen some nice rugs at Crate and Barrel. Ive decided on a deep blueish grey with a rich gold accent wall. Fingers crossed! Hope it turns out as gorgeous as i think it will!:)

Is ur dining adjoining to ur living room. If yes are planning to carry the same colour theme. I am confused with a similar problem

Chakuli- my LR and DR are two separate and even though i did mull over carrying colours for each room and using them as accent in the other, i finally decided that i'd like each space to have its own identity. Having said that i might add small artifact in each room with the accent color of the other room but thats the max i would do to add flow to the color theme. Something similar to the pic Ann referenced.
