I don't like insecticidal soap and rarely use it. When I do, I spray it directly on the offending pest itself, not all over the plant it is on. I also only use real insecticidal soap instead of using homemade formulas because commercially-produced insecticidal soap is micronized (I don't know if that's the actual word, but it comes closest to what I'm trying to say) so that the soap molecules are very small and less damaging, whereas homemade formulas often have larger bits of soap that are more damaging to plant cuticles. That is an interesting article and backs up what I have long believed, which is that insecticial soap is not harmless to the plants, though many people believe it is. Let us never forget that soap is also a herbicide, and the only difference in using soap as a pesticide versus using it as a herbicide is in the amount of soap used in each specific formula.
