Foyer needs some wow

Hi Houzzers,

Please weigh in on how to make this entrance guest ready. The copper pig is one option (hang it?) but this area needs some color and I'm stumped. Suggestions for filling that old dough trough on the bottom would also be appreciated. Thank you for helping - I'll post the After so you can see your advice go live.

A new paint color on your wall could make the biggest impact, but it depends on your adjacent rooms.

The copper pig looks like more of a kitchen piece, as does the dough trough. A foyer serves to introduce you, your style and hints at what to expect in the adjoining rooms. So, we really need to see them in order to suggest what will "preview" the rest of your surroundings.

@decoenthusiaste Right on. Here is what you see when you come further into the house. I wasn't conscious of the strong kitchen theme (pig, trough) but my husband and I are caterers so your intuition was right on.

Try putting the dough tray (great piece!) on the console under that great piece of art in your great room! Then find some yarn balls in your aqua and maybe some gold colors for the bowl. Adding texture since artwork looks smooth and aqua glass base lamps smooth and transparent. For the entry it looks like the arch provides a wall stop so you could bring some color into the entry. It looks like you have an eclectic feel for decorating, so maybe a chartreuse (yellow/green) for at least that wall behind your little console in entry. Then another piece of artwork that echoes those colors. And keeping it simple, perhaps one 6-8" high metal exotic bird to keep interest but not overload with stuff. I will look around and post some ideas.

Here are some concepts. You could do colorful items in the space as well if you don't want to paint! Check these out.

This is larger than your space I think, but a nice large colorful picture (i.e. the flamingo) and a tropical color rug with a few accessories, and no painting necessary!

The green on the wall is what makes this area shine.
Then the turquoise and hot reds along with black to temper things makes for an eclectic look.

Acid green wall, with interesting prints of birds (but you could chose whatever subject matter appeals to you. The trick is all frames are thin and dark and the mats are all white, or cream so the birds stand out. The purples and blues are natural fits with the greens. All nature colors. See if any of these ideas appeals and we can help from there. I notice the wood table in the entry might be an antique? However, if it isn't sentimental in value, you could paint that a bright purple/blue and then add the bright greens and blues to accessories.

I think by bringing these colors into your entryway, the guest is treated to "Hey! Come in and let's have some fun!" Fun colors pick people up.

No wonder you're a pro, Flo! Thank you for the great ideas. I'm going to go move the dough trough now and measure for a foyer rug.

Thanks! So fun. Check the "swing" of your door, so you don't get too big a rug and door interfers. Just a little tip there. Did you notice the "ceramic" dog in the flamingo picture!? I saw your "puppy" on the sofa, and that struck me. lol

One more thing. When you decide on predominate color, you can put small figurines, or anything, in the little cubbies in that entry table. That color would just "peek" out.!

I started following you on Houzz, Flo. How convenient that you're 30 minutes away. :-D Here's that 120# puppy watching the Texans game.

So, a kitchen theme in the entry isn't too far off! That white ice box in the LR chinches it! Go for the kitchy kitchen theme all the way!
