I think the room is wonderful. I am thinking you should do window treatments. It's hard to tell are those blinds or plantation shutters? Because plantation shutters would be gorgeous.

I agree this is a lovely room but window treatments and a nice tree or plant in the corner would do it justice.

Try taking a look at wainscoting.... I think it would make this large room feel cozier.

The room needs window coverings and a warmer wall color to make it cosier. The rug could be bigger and the leather chair is good but the couches are not right for the room. Perhaps a sectional couch with a lounger at the end. Also maybe larger and more art for the walls. that red from the leather chair is a good jump off point

I think white built-in book cases on the wall with the sconces could also give a nice finished look. Our family rule is to not have everything so obviously facing the TV, too, so I would not put the leather chair in that angle, but I have a feeling it is someone's "chair" to watch TV.
Also, my eye is drawn to the picture hanging between the sconces too much and it seems to be hung too low, first, and second, it isn't really adding much. I think a big mirror in that spot would be much more attractive.

Sofas should face each other. Since you want new ones maybe somewhat lighter, something blended with the fp.

I would put up rods and do curtains in a brown heavier fabric like faux swede. The room is fairly large so instead of trying to create one large seating area in front of fireplace, I would create at least one individual siting area in one of the corners using the red chair and ottoman for reading. Plants are a must for this room! Brown curtains will reduce the amount of natural lighting so pick plants that will work with that or better yet get good quality fake ones. Good luck.

If there's space, I suggest you put a sofa table behind the one sofa with a table lamp, and get rid of the ceiling fan/light. That way it brings your eye down and help you focus on the centre of the room. The room just seems big and breezy (which is beautiful) but not cozy. The mantel looks cozy, but the glass wall side of the room looks more like a summer house look which makes me think of an energetic vibe. Perhaps some window coverings, even if just sheers in a warm colour would cozy things up. The side ways chair also opens up the space and would help if it can be turned to face the opposite sofa. Accessories too. Large vases on the floor of the mantel. A large plant in the empty back corner of the room.

I think the fireplace is rather "woodsy" or rustic compared to the furniture. I would have a more traditional mantle built. I, too, had the kind you have. A carpenter put a board on top that extended just a bit on either side and a few inches out in the front and then glued wood strips of trim to the front and sides of the new shelf. The only think I don't like is I wish the shelf and trim had been a little thicker - maybe two to three inches. Even so, it made a big difference in the look. It was stained to match the original mantle which supports this add on.

Great room!!! Can do a lot of things to it. I don't know if it is the angle of the photo, but the furnishings looks thrown in the middle. Curtains for sure. If u do curtains, take them to the ceiling and wider for the smaller two . That will bring height in the room.

I think the room has great bones. Is there a small cabinet you could use to house the tv/audio equipment in the corner? I agree with others that the room needs window treatments and more, larger wall art.

It's as if the furniture placement is to focus on the tv. Stop that. Put chairs facing away from the TV beside each corner of hearth have couches face each across wonderful glass retro coffee table. Rug should anchor pieces but not cover entire floor under them.colors are fine. Just clear the room, read everyone suggestions and try them on before you chose. You live with it a few days then change again til you find something comfy and welcoming.

Larger picture on far wall and something to put on fireplace to lighten the hearth. Maybe some pillows or pottery.

I think the room looks fine the way it is. But I have two things that might help. you can put oak trim in that "den". That will give it a warm feeling. White is naturally and psychologically COLD. Snow hello, lol. And finally, light the fireplace with real wood... nuff said.

I don't know what the exterior style of your home is, but the dry stack stone FP is not the southern traditional look you desire. It is in conflict with the white trim and your traditional rug. I expected to find that FP surrounded by modern or rustic furniture. The TV mounted there adds even more incongruity. I'm thinking if you could take the FP down to standard height and add a traditional mantel, you might make it fit, even if you kept a TV there. Keep in mind that anything hung above a mantel looks better proportioned if is no wider than the fire box opening below. That is another reason you find no coziness here. You have two big black boxes on another big brown box looming over the room.
