Does your landlord allow you to paint?

I'm not sure I would- mainly because is small and cluttered, and I think an overpowering colour like midnight blue would just add to the cramped-ness. Are the walls done in white, or is it the lighting that makes it look yellow-ish? I'd consider doing a nice white, like Cloud White by Benjamin Moore. Then replace your blinds on the window with a pretty patterned flat valence, and add a pretty kitchen rug in a colour that matches that. (If it was your place, I'd say paint the cupboards too.) Finally, get some nice storage boxes for those pans on top of the shelf, and see what you can do to cut down on the visual clutter on counters and shelves.

wow. um, ditto what Cara mentioned. You have quite the collection of 'things' in that kitchen.

i loathe opening and closing cabinet doors.

i don't see a candidate for an accent wall, i'd keep it all light colored.

@Beth - is public shaming part of your 'pro' status?

I think I would keep it white and maybe paint the window frame black and add a really cute B&W roman blind. Add 2 or 3 black square baskets on the windowsill for extra storage and as many as you can in the kitchen to hide the small stuff. If allowed and don't mind the work, the cupboards painted white would be a big help to lighten the room.
