Turf identification/fall game plan

Can anyone help identifying the type of turf I have here? Probably not the easiest without seeing the grass blade and roots, but if anyone has any suggestions that would be great! We just bought this house and will be moving in mid October. This is in eastern Iowa, so obviously there are only a few types of grass it could be, being in the Midwest. I think the short cut it has is throwing me off because it doesn't look like the typical lush KBG grass usually grown around here. So, I'm thinking it may be some type of rye grass? Sorry these pictures aren't that great, but was it was the best I could get at the moment. House was built in 2011, so I am assuming it was sodded at that time with what is there now. You'll have to disregard the third photo (sorry), tried to get a close up.

Also, as far as a fall game plan goes, does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do as far as fertilizing till the end of the year, if anything? I won't be able to get to the lawn till mid October. I really want it to come out in spring in the best shape possible, so my thinking was possibly an application of milo around that mid October mark when I move in, and then a high N fertilizer app around Thanksgiving to winterize. Thoughts?
