charger question

we have 2 nearly identical chargers for our identical phones. I get an error message when I plug in 1. it says charger is not recommended for this device. but it seems to work. I than used 2 different usb charging cords via my computer and I get the same error message for 1 of the usb chargers. 1 charger displays a phone message asking if I want to do data or music transfer so I assume that cord is fine. the 2nd cord makes the phone display the same not recommended message as the wall charger. is the phone actually charging when I get the not recommended message?

What is the difference between the 'nearly identical' chargers? I'd suspect that one has a faster charge rate which the phone may detect as too high of a wattage for optimum life of the battery.

1 charger is .5ah and the 2nd is .7? I suppose the usb cords are not actually identical. Both can plug into a usb/ac charger or they can also plug into a USB port. One is black, one is white. Guess which one gives an error message?

Are these Apple phones? Apple can detect whether the charging cord and/or charger is their product and gives that "error" message if they are not. I have found that it makes no difference.

We've used after-market cords for charging iPhones without difficulty.

Do they have the exact same voltage? That can make a difference too. Although I bet it's the current as you already posted.
