Does this backsplash tile work?

My fantasy brown quartzite countertops were installed today and I have this tile that has the same colors as the fantasy brown in it which I am considering for a short backsplash. It is just going up a couple of rows. I am doing ss behind the range.

No. Wrong undertones, and the pattern is too close but not quite to the counter.

If you'd like to avoid the Stonehenge look, go with glazed ceramic tile and pick a color that's in your stone. I agree with caw, this isn't a good look.

Your countertop is lovely! No to the tile you're showing. I'll be glad to photoshop a few for you, if you are willing to post some pictures of the space.

^^^ that second to last picture had an absolute MASTER for a tile installer - WOW!

I agree with the others that the tile in your picture is not the one.

I don't care for that last photo at all. The backsplash is soooo busy, it wrecks the otherwise beautiful kitchen.

No, that does not work. I would take your backsplash all the way up to the bottom of the cabinets too. Are your cabinets dark? I would use a creamy, or off white tile. Your stone is beautiful.

No! I think the large single color shiny tile would look fabulous.

I agree with everyone, I believe it's too similar without being exactly the same. For some reason I instantly thought of my favorite tiles - hand made, hand glazed tiles from Morocco. Their white has this beautiful natural variation in tone that I saw in very old kitchens in house museums in Amsterdam. It looks the same because it's probably still the same process!

I also love their mosaics but that probably isn't your look but look at each individual tile - each of the colors used are also offered in single color, various-sized tiles.

This shows the range of their "white". I'd have to see a bunch of them next to your counter of course but it might be really lovely. They have them in subway tile shapes too.

I have been planning on using this dove gray I love it. But I have a lot of this tile left from another area of the house and my husband just doesn't understand why we can't use it so I needed y'all to let him know I was right it won't work. This is what I want. This will work I am pretty sure. Someone here posted they have this tile and fantasy brown I don't recall who but it looked very good.

Thanks for the beautiful pictures! They are very inspiring. Can yyou photoshop this 3x6 dove gray with one of my countertops? Here's another shot that shows my wood look barn wood tile floors a little bit.

The floor and the tile have such similar colors, would the dove gray get lost? Maybe a cream in that crackle would look better? Feels like cream might be a space to pause and take a breath maybe? Can you get ten sample tiles of each and march them across the counter?

I couldn't visualize my tiles for anything. I had to buy boxes and then return what didn't work. Kept me tied to big box stores, unfortunately, but I narrowly escaped disaster that way a few times.

I don't have many uppers just 2 on each side of the sink window and 2 with a microwave bridge over the stove. I have to work within the money we got from fema and we are already going over what they gave us so unfortunately at this point I just can't do a lot of backsplash. That's why I thought doing a short splash that goes up to under the sink window and the other window which looks out to the atrium. Maybe some day...

I love the crackle and either choice is good but you may have the option to tile as much as you like if you use HD's classic subway tile. At around $2sqft it would go a long way within a budget. Not saying you should, I'm just familiar with exploring options within a budget. Love the floor!

The same tile comes in an antique white too and they are both at home depot so yes I can and will. I also saw an antique white hand made 3x12 at floor and decor it's more glossy.

I LOVE your cabinets! The paint color is awesome, too. Your finished kitchen is going to look fabulous. I vote for the dove gray, but I might be biased, because I chose a gray, as well.

I can't photoshop but I did a collage of the dove gray with a section of the countertops. The tile is actually 3 x6 not giant lol

Oh my gosh your kitchen is beautiful. Do you know what your backsplash tile is? Thank you I am really liking my cabinets too although my pictures don't do them justice. My paint color is Sherwin Williams krypton it really changes colors but it's a blue gray.

Thanks! It's Arizona Tile - Pumice.

Are you going to be posting a reveal when yours is done? I can't wait!

I regret doing a reveal using my own pictures, but I was impatient. The kitchen designer pictures were much better than mine, so I keep posting hers whenever I get a chance! (Like the one I posted above.)

I know this is not popular on GW but since you are only doing a small area behind the sink have you considered just a piece of the granite rather than introducing another material?

Or a piece of back painted glass behind the sink. I think that sometimes a typical tile backsplash is unnecessary especially if it's just a little bit of one.

I was thinking the same as pal. I think a backsplash behind the sink of the fantasy brown would be lovely.

I am biased though, because when I did my kitchen thats what I did. I went back about 2 years later and added tile.

    without tile

After tile, messy closeup, I have no idea why I took a photo when I was cleaning the coffee pot

Localeater that's very similar to what I am going for. I did consider the fantasy Brown but was thinking a short piece but I really like what you did behind the sink! I definitely could do that. And add the low splash tile in the other areas. There's not much space behind the stove and microwave so just using the stainless steel there. I had glass in a previous home and liked it, very easy to keep clean.

Pattisue thanks for the information. Yes I hope to do a reveal. It's taking so long since we had to do the whole house after the flood. It seems like it will never be finished. Such beautiful kitchens for inspiration.

Local, I like the way that stripe of tile looks.

Raven, if you choose a more expensive tile, maybe add two shelves to create a higher natural stopping point for the tile? Maybe whatever tile you pick also has a little pencil edge to finish just beyond the shelves (if you like the shelf idea).

I like how shelves ground cabinets on a wall while also shaking up the look of storage that's been centrifuged onto the walls.

(How come the floor looks so different? In this one it doesn't look like the wood plank at all.)

The floor was not installed yet that's the concrete slab lol. I do plan on adding shelves. I will have a wall of matching shelves on one end of the kitchen too.

Choose a really inexpensive solid tile and use it behind the stove all the way up to the microwave- it will be very inexpensive. Use a scrap of your granite behind the sink. It's going to look great.

I like simplicity. In my last house I was able to get 12 X 12 tiles of my granite. They were installed so close there was no grout line.
