Marble is soft and can stain easily, I would go with a Quartz material if you want something in the white family.

I have Cambria (cambriausa.com) quartz counter tops in my new kitchen - love them, beautiful and maintenance free! There are so many colors to choose from, including some that look very similar to marble. You can order 3x3 or 12x12 samples. I checked out all of the small samples at my contractor's show room, but ordering a couple of 12x12 pieces really helped me decide which one I liked best. You can put little plastic "bumpers" on the bottom corners and use them as trivets.
