Get powdered or little pellets that dissolve in water orthene. It goes in the sprayer. It can be sprayed alone or with fertilizer. It kills on contact and is a systemic. The one to avoid is orthene in an oil form.

the chemical in Orthene is acephate (97 percent concentration)and orthene is usually found at orchid supplier locations or on line. the same chemical is found in Ortho Fire Ant powder at home depot and or lowes (Cheaper at $12 per container) at a lower concentration of 50 pct, when I use it, I just double the amount to make same ratio as 97 pct ,for mix with water and use when not windy, add a couple of drops of detergent to act as a sticker agent. Make sure you read and abide by the directions on bottle.
