Everdebz- the home with the white fence and umbrella are actually the neighbors on the other side of me, the white fence was what they used for privacy for their jacuzzi. The homes in my neighborhood are right on top of each other- that's why I'd like a little privacy at times. Our deck has about a 9 ft. elevation, but my house sits well below the neighbors. The deck when completed will be 14x24, we are extending to the end of the house toward the neighbor with the single deck.

Yes, I said townhouse cause my front patio was separated by a white fence. Neighbor's 2nd floor window allowed view to our patio - it's part of the arrangement! I would build a frame on the deck to attach outdoor drapes, that you could leave open for light or close for privacy.

I think I'd just wave to my neighbors when I see them, and leave it open so you can enjoy nature and breezes. That white monstrosity that your neighbor put up looks awful. I can't imagine relaxing in that hot tub, I'd feel like I was locked up in jail there.

You can do a decorative fence panel, they available in many styles and they can be wood or composite. Just make sure the new deck post's which will support the panel properly attached to the deck using proper hardware to provide lateral support and withstand other other loads, like wind, etc.

In my densely populated urban neighborhood I've seen quite a few houses with vintage windows and stained glass panels hung on the sides decks and porches. Doesn't give you total privacy but if you add some tall plants in pots and train vines to grow up the deck posts, it might be enough.
