Help ID'ing Attacking Insect(s)

last modified: 10 years ago

We bought a new home with a lovely garden, but several of our shrubs and small trees have some kind of pest that's attacking them. I'm pretty new to gardening, so not sure what it is -- here's a few pictures from different plants; with overall plant then individual leafs with closeups.

Oh; and we're in California's Central Valley -- very hot climate. Much appreciate any help and advice!

Can't be certain from the one photo; aphids or leafminers are possibilities.

Uncertain what is happening in the 1st image you posted. Can you add a closer view of the damage?

In the added images - - -

The first large brown spot is sunscald.

Brown areas in other images is insufficient water sometime in the past.

You now live in a hot, dry region with dry summers. Depending upon where you moved from, you may need to relearn irrigation practices..

There is slight evidence of insects in the photo series; insects can attack lush growth, but too-dry plants can be targets also.
