Lucky you! The squirrels took every single one of my peaches.

We had tons of peaches this year but they're tiny--the size of a large plum! Not a single apple to be seen though; that last cold snap and snow last spring came at a bad time for us. We've not had much of a problem with anything eating the fruit so have never used anything on them, sorry, Mstywoods.

I cut one of the apples, and there wasn't a worm in it. So maybe it's squirrels making the hole in them? Haven't seen them in the tree, but we do have a lot of them in our yard. Or maybe birds? Only thing I've noticed is a wasp sitting on one of the apples, had to shoe it off. But wouldn't think it could make a hole that size (maybe about a 1/2" to an 1" long, and 1/4" to 1/2" wide, and 1/4" deep).

I cut off the hole on the side of the apple, and ate the rest of the fruit (Eve Braeburn) - very tasty little apple :) Sort of a Granny Smith taste, but that may be because it was still green.

You're probably right, sounds like damage birds would make.

We had two peaches on our young tree this year. We picked one, and left the other to ripen for a few more days. The one we picked was juicy and delicious. We went back for the second one a couple of days later and it was gone. I'm sure it was squirrels! But at least we know the tree can produce and we'll take steps to guard against the thievery next year.

Having fun enjoying one of my peaches today :) It's only a couple of bite fulls, but tastes good! Have two more on the tree that I'll pick soon. I also picked one apple and ripened it on the counter till it turned more red - it was very good, too. Ripening a few more in a paper bag.

I had to buy mine! I actually found the Colorado nectarines to be amazing this year, better than the peaches. They are so sweet, like candy. I actually had to stop myself from eating too many of them.
