Do they have a cork sole? If so, that might be a problem. OTherwise, go for it. I have some shearling slippers I washed the same way, but rubber/synthetic soles. They did great.

I am wearing my Haflingers right now, as I read this! :) I have never washed a pair. We have made it a tradition...we buy a new pair each Christmas!

Well they're done. And still intact!

i washed in Miele w3033, wool cycle, warm (104f), and no spin.

Now they are dripping wet. I think I'll roll them up in old terry towels to extract extra water.

My wool shoes are by RYKA...they are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. I don't know this name brand but they are great shoes given to me by my cousin. I have always scrubbed the soles with a brush and than soaked them in warm water with a non enzyme liquid detergent like purex. Always look new.

I am sure my shoes have survived their adventure. I had them on the air conditioner vents most of yesterday and overnight, but they are still damp. Today I just placed them outside to sun. Yesterday they would have got that treatment but it was rainy and overcast all day. I had towel dried them after the wash. It will not get real warm today but it will be sunny with a little breeze.

After washing, the felt feels (haha) like it is rejuvenated. I don't know if it has been, it could be that they were water logged and just felt (haha) like they were new again. These clogs were actually pretty pathetic, before the wash. I began using them as my handywoman shoes last year when I got my new ones. These are ventilated at the seams where they are contoured, at the time of construction. These holes do keep my feet cooler in the summer.

Now, I should have taken a before picture so you would believe me when I tell you my clogs are all washed up, without issue.

I have had a few pair of Haflinger clogs/slippers and washed them all the time without a problem. Always air dried them. Loved my Haflingers!

Baseball hats and shoes. I've never washed clothing in it. No tumbling. The china cycle doesn't get as hot. My son's shoes don't fit well in the FL so they get run through the dishwasher on the china setting. Lol. I never said I wasn't crazy.

Soooo, did all these washing techniques help keep the smell away?

Knwonlake, my shoes don't ever smell bad. I must not have the issue that some people have. So the wash in the clothes washing machine works for me, with a mild wool soap. I also wash my Dansko walking shoes, that are sort of like athletic shoe build, except there is a strap that velcros over, sort of criss cross to keep them on my feet. They are mostly nylon type material but do have a leather bit at the toe and heal area for durability. They wash up nice too on the hand wash cycle of my machine. I take the liners out and wash with the shoes. The fabric is so durable its not an issue.

After cleaning the soles well, I soak mine in Woolite and then squeeze out as much as I can and follow with a cool water soak/rinse. I dry them out on the deck on a warm breezy day.
