If it isn't too big an area, you could attach a timer to your spigot for a few bucks and let it run an oscillating sprinkler a few times a day. Ask a neighbor to shut the water off it is seems to be running all day long.

Do what daniel suggest, just start using the timer now so you get a feel of how it works. By the time you leave you and your neighbors should have a good idea of what looks right and what does not.

I've been using this guy for the past couple of weeks, it has done the job well.
