Lennox, quality and reputation? Based on what?

Made in Mexico? Is Mexico known for quality? Will you be able to get parts when you need them, or will you have to wait 2 weeks for them to be shipped from Mexico?

Based on price? Based on service availability of dealer? Based on technical aptitude of technicians when the system breaks down?

Wait 5-10 years, then count the break downs, how long you had to wait for service? How proficient was the service of the installing contractor?

It has little to do with how much you spend in most cases. The devil is in the 'details'.

If the system doesn't work, it doesn't matter what you spent.

If a AC & Heat dealer can only sell something based on 'price' then 'quality' is fleeting. -This is true at least 90% of the time.

#Things to think about for next time.

Thank you tigerdunes, i'm located in Chicago IL,i'm sorry but if I understand right you asking me about my old system? ok: townhouse is build 1998 and its a 4 unit building,1400 sf of space, originally outside on porch I have AC Rheem 10 seer 18 years old working but not all the time ,freezes inside and pipes outside if I put temperature lower then 74,furnace is in laundry room in the middle of the house Rheem 80 % working ok ,I put the wrong title[did I overpay] and I'm sorry I did not agree to the price yet and I'm still shopping around, so you telling me that if I go with that Lennox system I'm actually overpaying on label and quality of the system ?I only know what I read reviews on internet and on this forums. Can you please tell me what is a better system and similar and if I pay more I guess is worth the money. Do you think is better if I ask for 14 acx instead of 13 acx? you said is the lower end in Lennox line? I know price is deferent about $800.00. Like I mentioned in the price of the system everything is included from warranty to system flush and vacuum the system, take out old Freon and oil and make sure is clean before installing new system and charge same with new gas and I got it in writing and I can still work on price I'm sure but depends what ac I choose to go with el 280 furnace. About this furnace my cousin have same from 2years ago and save him lot of money and its a big difference instead of old furnace. Please any suggestion or comment is ok .Ooo and I'm not in the hurry to decide to go with install so when is the best time to look for this done; summer and fall or winter and spring?

for OP...I believe you misunderstood...for new system, new lineset, filter cabinet, matching evap coil to be furnished?...what size AC and furnace?...I think the price is good, I think the equipment especially the AC condenser is poor...if going with Lennox, I would consider the next grade up on AC, either XC13 or XC14...I may also recommend another Mdl furnace as well...

    IMO

Thank you tigerdunes, and this "if you going with Lennox "that really make me think, problem is XC13 AND XC14 are over power for 1000 sf and I need to change filter box to and that is extra money, I think 14 acx and furnace is el280,i will post when i and what I decide,Thank you.

The best time to get a new system installed is during the mild weather months (fall and spring). Installers are not busy and over worked which means the probability of a good installation improves. Prices may be a little better and there may be an opportunity for a manufacturer rebate.

A new furnace and AC installation as you describe for less than $5000 is a least amount of money you can expect to pay. But realize you are buying builder's grade equipment, and the installation may not be the best.

for OP...sizes of both furnace and AC quoted please...you have been quoted a low end ACX south of the border condenser...move up to the mid grade XC13 or XC14 AC condenser.

For mike home all respect buddy please what is builder grade equipment?please explain and you say it will affect installation quality how? You mean Contractor will cut corners? ,I did look on internet and have lots different meanings, thank

Every manufacturer offers several models from the cheapest to the most expensive. The cheapest are typically designed for home builders. The product has a brand name a home buyer recoginzes (Carrier, Trane, Lennox, etc.) but it is built of the lowest cost materials with a minimum set of features.

You can still have a good installation with inexpensive equipment. But if the quoted price is low. there is a high probability is going to cut corners during the installation.

Don't fall in love with the lowest bidder. You generally get what you pay for.

I suspect this will generate some disagreement but as far as condensers go both AC and HPs, Trane/AmStd do not offer builder grade in their product line.

If only it were that simple... look for reviews on any 'AC Brand' equipment thru Google search.

You will find all brands rate about the same... 1 to 1 1/2 stars out of 5.

There is approximately a 60% chance your system will have some problem within 3 years of operation. It may be simple problem or it may be catastrophic. Installation of the equipment accounts for 90-99% of this equation. (margin of error maybe 5% on a bad day. --- power surges, brown outs, etc.)

I run HVAC repair service, that's how I know and where my figures come from. My main job isn't changing filters and cleaning condensers... your mileage like all things may vary.

You are probably correct that Trane and American Standard's least expensive equipment is better built then the low end models of other brands. I always associated the "B" in the Trane XB condenser series as the Builder grade, but maybe that is not being fair. They are at Trane's low price point.

I replace just as many Trane or American Standard units as I do any other brand. I actually prefer going to a house with a broken Trane or American Standard unit because by then the hype 'belief' is pretty much over in most cases.

Under $5000 for a complete system replacement (furnace, AC, coil, etc) isn't a bad price if the job is done properly.

Not sure what the "1 year protection plan" covers that the parts and labor warranty wouldn't(?)
