I just bought a very small sago palm that's currently in a six-inch pot. Like I do with all new plants that I keep in containers, I'd like to repot this in gritty mix (which involves bare rooting them). I live in NY where the growing season is coming to a close and nighttime temps will soon be dropping. The plant will overwinter in an unheated garage that could experience some freezing, which I imagine imposes some stress on it.

Because it won't have a lot of time to recuperate from a repotting, would it be better to wait until next spring to repot? It's currently in the standard big box peaty mix but it won't get a lot of water over the winter anyway.
