Preparing plants to go indoors

I want to keep some annuals alive for next summer. They are

brugmansia (potted)
datura (in ground)
mandevilla (potted)
patchouli (potted)

What is the way to do this? I get confused about how moist and how much light they need over winter, and if they really go dormant. The options for their indoor winter homes are a southern exposure living room, or my basement, which stays at 60-65 degrees and has almost no light. I live in zone 5b

Yeah, I ended up finding a couple of helpful books, too, but my issue is that my brugmansia has about 20 blossoms on it right now, and I want be able to enjoy them. Right now, I am just checking the daily low temperatures, and can always bring it inside. But every time a bud drops, I get so disappointed. Here is a picture from 2 days ago, autumn leaves and all:
