i'd store the hutch top away and leave the buffet base as it is. i dont think another color would improve things. right now its the correct color for the style. painting it white wouldnt update it.

Do you have a dining set to match? If so, I would just leave as is or remove the top. If you like to mix and match, see below You could also change the handles. It really depends on where and what you are doing with it. You could remove the glass and use mesh for a cute look and remove the little railing piece. It's also important how you accessorize.
