Rain, anyone?

I have plenty. In fact I'm running out of places to put it. There is a culvert under the driveway and water can go under it to the other side. This is my south lake. I took this earlier this morning. The flash flood warnings are for most of the counties to the north and east of me but even my county was included. I bet I wouldn't have to go far to see water over the road.

I did a walk through and didn't find any damage from the overnight storm. One small limb down. The ladder against the pear tree is down. Lots of windfall apples that I lobbed into the pasture. The horses will have to cross this water to get them. It's been raining most of the morning. It slows down and then starts up hard again. TV forecast has rain every day this week. I hope they aren't any more accurate than they usually are.

Wow! That is a lot of water! We had big rains a few weeks back and lots of homes flooded. I am lucky to be on top of the hill and no rivers (just a creek down the hill) nearby. They just said on our weather last night that we got 12" of rain this summer. We are 3.24" higher than normal. It was either 100º or raining this summer. Nothing in between.

I hope your weather people aren't any better than ours. The main guy said it would be raining this weekend. This morning the other guy shows no rain until mid week and then only a chance. I wish they knew what they were talking about. :)

What kind of apples do you grow? I'm excited that it's apple time here. I need to get some and make a pie!!

My golden delicious split in 1/2 this year. I don't know if it will live. The other trees are jonathan or a jonathan cross and I think winesap. I don't remember and the tags are long gone.

Delicious!! I hope your golden delicious survives. I think those are all good baking apples, right?

OH WOW that is a whole lot of water. Hoping it is not flooding into your barn. And I also hope the weather man is wrong and the rain goes around you. WOW.

We did have rains over night and pretty good ones. I am so glad I put that path to the shop in a few days ago. PHEW I would not be able to walk down that little slope right now if I had not put the steps in. It is slimy. Smacking my head wondering why I did not do this years sooner. I am happy for the rains. so far no more today but it has been cloudy and windy and looks like it could rain any minute.

    Be safe.

I can't remember the last time we had a significant rain here in SC. Labor Day weekend, I think. We've been dry since spring; it amazes me that the native plants somehow survive. Hot, too, with temps still nudging 90 almost every day, a good 10 degrees above 'normal'. C'mon, fall!

More rain over night. It will soon be over my driveway even though there is a culvert under it. There's no where for the water to go.

It's not a good forecast. Rain until this afternoon. For once I hope they're right.

WOW it has come up quite a bit on your barn. I pray it lets up for you soon.

My horse's barn is behind that one. It's high enough it's unlikely the whole thing would go under. They have access to that one but use the other one more. My truck and all the lawn mowers and Stuff is in that building. I've never had more than an inch or so of water in it and even then not the whole thing. There's a wall between my stuff and the horse side.

Cody is smart enough to stay on the drive way. It's higher than where Pony is crossing.

Pony crossing the water to get the apples on the other side. I must have moved just when I took the picture.

This is the entry to their barn from the other direction.
    Between the two barns.

Once it stops raining upstream and here this will go down in 2 or 3 days. It might not all be gone for a week. In years past it's stood for 2 weeks or more. Then the county fixed the drain tile and it's been better since. I was told the smell afterwards is from dead worm bodies.

Eweeee Dead worm bodies. Who would have thunk it.

Laughing on Pony bobbing for apples. Glad your guys are ok.

I know after the flood we were in we always looked for higher ground with good run off. We could be hit from the upper side and planned for it with proper ditch and culverts to carry we hope most of the water past us. AND there is a law here you can not dump your water onto some one else. But if it is just running down the road edge and culvert we are not doing this. The house sits on the highest part of the property we could get it on. The eastern fence line is the final edge of the flood plain so our property is out of the flood plain and this is good for insurance. And we are at least 5 foot higher in elevation at the house than at the fence line. Joe shot it with a what ch ma call it. Laser some thing or?? Even so I worry about the water coming down the hill towards us. I keep a river alert coming to me in email. and watch emergency weather reports.

Wow, Imhappy, that is a lot of water! I hope it stops soon for you and everything recedes quickly. Your horses don't seem to mind. They are pretty cute!

It has gone down almost 3 feet already. Still deep but doesn't cover as much ground. The bad news is more rain for Saturday night. It's gray and dismal now. Looks like rain. I hope not. But considering what is happening in towns to the east of me, I don't have any complaints. There are main streets under water. Several are sandbagging and in some neighborhoods it didn't stop the water. The Cedar River will crest tomorrow afternoon over 24 feet. It's over 14 feet above flood stage now and then the rain coming Saturday night.

My sump pump has taken care of my water so far. We need some wind and sun. Maybe next week.

I hope you get the wind and sun and very little to no rain these next days!! Having a sump pump is great, isn't it? I finally had one put in last year after 17 years of using a shop vac to clean up the rain water that would come in when we had heavy rainfalls. :(
