Take the tile up to the base of the cabinets. As for wall color...if you would like to give it more of a pop you could use a pale blue or possibly pale yellow. If you would like to have a more monochromatic look go with a light grey or white. Either of these paint options will give you a more airy kitchen...using dark colors will make the space feel smaller and more enclosed. Hope this helps!

Agree with both of the above. You have a large reveal at top of cabs even if you crown them. Tile at top L/R will not look right if it doesnt carry up and over the cabs/crown otherwise id say make a statement and do a full wall capture.

Stay with bottom of cabs to window.

I would make the window-wall the accent of the whole kitchen and tile up to the ceiling. If you do that I would not use that tile on the left wall. Then, for the wall to the left, I'd purchase a plain white tile (pull from the white of the decorative tile), same size, and finish as the decorative tile and tile up to cabinets.

I would also go half way up- could always do an accent color if you are wanting a variation from the rest of the walls

Thanks so much for your keen eyes - all of you! I'm trying to avoid color in the kitchen as I have an open Kitchen, Dining and Living Rm and my Living room has somewhat neutral furniture (gray, beige and steel blue) with lots of color in the rug, Gray, Cream Darker Denim Blue, Orange. I may add a few colored accessories but wanted the tile to be the pop, just feel it needs contrast in the paint but not really a color. All other walls are BM Revere Pewter. I think I will take most of your advice and go half way up and stop the tile at the cabinets. The crown is a 3 part and will go all the way to the ceiling to match the remaining portion of the open area first floor. Thank you again! Still struggling with the paint color around the window - Arrgh!

Your paint in the kitchen needs to be white. For all of the reasons you give in your posts, open and airy, need for contrast, etc.

You are probably right. I've taken most of my kitchen from this photo and I do love this look! Since my cabinets are a light gray, perhaps white is the way to go. Thanks Kris!

Your backsplash tile matches the cabinets but not the counters. Too busy with the marbled look.

Thanks leelee, a little late now. I'm not too much a of a matchy-matchy person, I mix grey and beige, sticking with warms in the kitchen. I think I will go with a light neutral above and around the window.

One look that I think looks the best is to frame out your window and paint the trim. Tile to the window trim and just do to top of cabinet base

Thanks Susan, I've saved tons of these in my Kitchen Ideabook and love this look. Just wanted some opinions from all you great decorators and designers because my tile is rather loud, but I love it. As I said, I'm not a matchy-matchy person, but really like symmetry - as in this picture.

How did your project turn out? Would love to see photos!

Depends how messy things can get in that kitchen. But generally speaking the only reason why tiles don't go all the way up to the ceiling is cost reduction. If you can afford it, do it. :)
