SF Bay Area potted P.obtusum.

Its done so well in the two years I've had it. A cutting bought from Maui Tropicals on Ebay. No flowers..shooting for next year. If I had the right spot- I think these could be grown in ground. Just find that spot where the sun beats down on it all day or close to it. Right now,I don't have that spot. So, in a pot on the patio. I also found it to be plenty cool hardy. Our z10a is just mild enough.

Stan- congrats on your magnificent plant you grew yourself from a cutting in a more challenging part of our state.

I first took notice of the plumeria Obtusa while visiting a great beach on the island of Lanai with my girlfriend. The dark glossy leaves with rounded tips really set off the beautiful white flowers with super fragrance. I knew I had to grow one or more. Pictured are my "evergreen" plumerias, meaning somewhat less deciduous where I am in Southern California.

Dwarf Pink on left, Singapore on the right and Pudica center. The Singapore seems to be taking on a parabolic shape in its quest to gather more sunlight...lol!

Very Nice. The Austin/SA Plumeria Group here have had the worst luck with S.O. Its a notorious black tipper. Matter of fact its something of an inside joke on who is being gifted (actually re-gifted) that one S.O. this year.

When it blooms its a beautiful flower and scent. AND who doesnt love those dark green glossy leaves. I am still experimenting on the secret formula (dry spring/wet summer or some other combination) to reduce the number of black tips.

Thanks Tony, Tony- nice little P.pudica. I've seen it thrive in soucal better then I would have thought. Dense growth,many blooms. Is it evergreen? semi?

TFK- I saw a little of that (black tip) in spring..once we got warm it stopped. These are highest light level plants. Not enough sun will also cause spotting on leafs. A cool August and longer September shadows were bringing it out. When I moved it to a sunnier area,those spots just vanished in days.

That could very well be the case. It's kind of hard to give a plant more direct sun than in the Texas Hill Country but I'll take that recommendation and look for the furnace spot in the yard.

I'm not sure if it bloomed this year but here it is last year. (attempting to link my photobucket library to this thread. Not sure what format Houzz will accept.)
