Okay, so... when you're going to shop for furniture: think 'clean lines'. So no bulky armrests or skirts on sofas and chairs, but legs so you can see under them (visually enlarges the space).

Don't keep thinking 'small'. For instance: a large chandelier or floor lamp with a really large lampshade will look stunning in a not so big room (and in a big room too actually ;-))

An Ottoman in stead of a coffee table will provide extra seating if needed and when you put a large tray on it, it will work as a coffee table.

Glass and mirrored furniture will add to the glamorous feel and look, and visually don't take up much space.
Dining chairs that will also work as additional chairs in your living area when needed...
