Exterior Help!

We are building a barn style home. Seems like before I started this project I had a pretty good vision but somehow have lost it. Some of the reason is, our wrap around porch on the front is South facing and colors seem to look very dark there. Our style is Classy Western, any ideas?

what colors have you tried? what color is the metal roof and the stone facade.

do you have an image of it besides the drawing?

Hi Kelly, we are going to a shingled roof instead of metal. I have some pictures of some rock we like but nothing is set in stone! (no pun intended!!

Beverly, I love that house! How would you incorporate the exposed beams in front? Would you just do the board and baton darker? Thank you so much for your response!

I hope that at least this is a gambrel roofed plan that doesn't show well in elevation? Because that elevation looks like someone took a 1970's ranch and just jiffypopped the top in the middle. The high wasted pants of stone is especially egregious in that regard. As is the meanness of fenestration for the second floor.

Traci, Just do plain white columns, no stone at the base. Keep everything white, but concentrate on improving the details like the windows, railing, and something has to be done to make it not look like a Cracker Barrel Restaurant. Are you out west or are you doing this in a state that gets snow?

Thank you Beverly for your constructive suggestions! I appreciate the time you took to upload the pictures as well. Would you mind sharing the color of white on the first house you showed us?

Traci, I have no idea of the white, because I have no idea if it's wood board and batten or Hardie Board which is prefinished cement board. It's Simply White to me. Gosh, by doing your project in plain white, you have no idea how much simpler you can make your life on this build. White light fixtures, white plumbing fixture, white cabinets, white windows, prefinished white trim, white doors, white switch plates, white subway tile..........not kidding. Easy in the long run rather than trying to match crazy off whites.

I have quickly adjusted your one elevation

That house is here on Houzz. I have it and several of those others Beverly posted pinned. I love a white barn house. I'll see if they posted the paint color.

I also agree that stone will not be attractive on your home. Save yourself the money and nix it. I strongly suggest the metal roof. Beverly is right on.

I looked at the source photos and questions and many have asked but no one answered about paint color. But it is a cream or ivory with a white trim.

Thanks, Kris............If I had one more home in my future, this type would be the one. Classic, timeless, has a certain grace and is all American.

looks like you have plenty of help on your home.

I agree with all the comments. the stone definitely will take away from the height.
