Late season roses

We're expecting a lot of rain and gale force winds in a day or two so these may well be the last blooms of the season here (at least for these varieties):

Crédit Mutuel

Prince Jardinier

Prix P.J. Redouté

Rosomane Janon

Séduction Picarde

St Ethelburga

The Lady Gardener (
From a cutting. I probably should have snapped this off at bud stage but didn't have the heart to)

Always love your roses Henrik! Credit Mutuel's color reminds me of my David Austin rose, Benjamin Britten - a unique red/orange that stands out in the garden. Rosomane Janon is also unique in color - I looked it up on Help Me Find and wish I could order it!

I sympathize with your weather and hope it's not the end for your roses. It's been close to a 100F every day for the last few days so I've got more dried up, crispy blooms coming.

Lovely new roses, the only one I'm familiar with is St Ethelburga. Thanks for sharing your bounty

Prix P.J. Redouté certainly displays a range of colors at HMF. Has yours been the deeper shades of pink and copper?

Love Rosomane Janon. She looks like she loves your garden.

Congrats on your cutting taking root. I had my first success this summer from an unknown hybrid tea. No bloom as yet.

Wonderful! I'm always so excited when I see that you've posted new pictures. So many that we wouldn't get to see otherwise. I love Rosomane Janon, and I don't even like orange. Thank you! Lisa

Thank you Henrik. I hope yours is the correct Prix P.J.

Wondering how the Massad roses fare in cold winters. Do they weather low temperatures better than the Meilland roses?

    Beautiful Beautiful!

Oh Henrik!!!! Please, please never leave our forum!!!! Stunning!!!

I seriously cannot pick a favorite rose - they are all of the most sublime quality!! The colors are divine!!!!

I have one question though - how big are the blooms on your St. Ethelburga - the bloom you show looks huge!!!! Mine are only about 2 inches wide.

irisgal: Although I'm in a cold zone, I can't say very much about how cold hardy the Massad roses are since I grow most of them in pots (overwintered in my garage).

I only have Martine Guillot and Agnés Schilliger in full ground. MG has endured two winters so far. The first winter was unusally mild and the canes even survived unprotected above ground. Second winter was colder and more difficult (alternating many times between really hard freezes and wet thaw) and everything above ground was lost. It has come back ok but will never be a large bush here. AS also lost her canes this last (and only so far) winter but has come back to flower as well.

Judging only from this, hardiness might be a little bit better than hybrid teas from Meilland for example and on par with Austins but I'm not sure. They actually seem to be quite popular in Russia so I guess at least some of them are quite tough. I'm going to transplant a few more from pots to ground so we'll see how they do...

Carol: I'll stick around but I'm not sure if I will have any more photos to post this season. :) My fully open St Ethelburga blooms have been around 10-12 cm (or just above 4 inches) in size so they have been larger than I expected for some reason! (first season plant). Great fragrance too!

What!!! Four inches!!! Mine better shape up!! LOL And yours is a first season plant!! I guess that gives me hope, though, that mine may one day be like yours. Four inches....wow!

Ah, some into the garage. I've noticed the Moscow people at HMF and assumed their roses tolerated winter temperatures. So I will not be too far off base to think of Massads with Austins in terms of hardiness (some better than others). Thank you.

'Martine Guillot' is an aggressive 8 foot grower in So. Calif.! From the pictures I prefer 'Agnés Schilliger'. Hope she takes this winter well.

Its great seeing new roses- never heard of Rosomane Janon before, or Séduction Picarde; they both look lovely :)
