Hi there- I need answer now as tile installer is here and I'm getting conflicting information from everywhere... Installing 3 x 6 honed calacatta marble subway tile for kitchen backsplash. Does it need to be sealed prior to grouting? using white laticrete grout if that matters?

Natural stone tile needs sealing on "face". Ceramic tile does not.

Not sure what "face" means. But wanted to confirm that it's best to seal honed marble prior to grouting? And not sure exactly why ... Maybe to prevent grout from getting in tile ?
Thanks so much

Edited: Did a quick internet search and several sites said to seal before grouting, and one specifically mentioned to protect from scratching and color transfer if using colored grout. A couple said to seal both before, and after. A few others only said to seal after grouting (and after the grout had dried for at least 24 hours in one case) The "seal before" sites seemed to be more professionally oriented -- I would go with that.

Hopefully one of our pros will chime in.

Check on the Bathrooms Forum as well, sometimes there are tile experts there.
