Oversized Master Bedroom

I need help with this oversized master bedroom. Every time I feel like I'm getting to the point where the room is looking great, it never fails and ends up looking like it's missing something.

Should I rearrange the furniture and move the bed to the wall on the right side (desk wall)? What am I missing? I want to keep existing furniture and would love a sitting area so I need one or two chairs and a side table.

Thanks for your help and I apologize for the HUGE mess!!!

I really appreciate your design ideas!

I agree that I have a cluttered room. I am just now finishing decorating other rooms and somehow everything ended up in my bedroom. :(

Any recommendations for something more substantial under the tv? The sewing machine table is definitely gone just as soon as I find something for my tv.

A credenza type piece that is a little longer than your TV, but something not very deep. That should limit your options, but that wall does not need anything too deep.

A friend has a bedroom about this size, maybe even a bit bigger. By accident (there's a whole story that goes with that which doesn't matter here) we ended up putting a sofa in front of the TV wall with plenty of walk space between it and the bed. Since you probably don't have an extra sofa handy, try moving the chairs into TV-viewing position. They don't seem very useful on that wall anyway.

I think your old bench looks better in the room than the fuzzy one, BTW.

Try simplifying your bed linens...no throw..no frilly pillow covers...no prints or color or detail...the bed is special enough...especially with the new stool..also the tv needs a nice big chest under it to anchor the area and provide storage ...at this point I would narrow down how you want to use your seating and locate it and set it primarily where it would work best..for your use... with that in place you can add accessories spairingly so that all the really special items don't get lost ...you have an eye for groupings so that part will come easily

Love grovers idea about a couch (or loveseat) in front of the tv..(wasn't sure there would be room for that)...but there are so many times when you want to enjoy a guilty pleasure (BBC?..cooking show?) in your luxurious space all by yourself..

The major "flaw" that struck me is the volume, ornateness and style of the headboard. It overwhelms the little draperies on each side. At the minimum they should hang at the level where the side walls reach the ceiling.

These are well proportioned for the bed and reach the ceiling, but your ceiling isn't flat.

With your slanted ceiling you might try custom drapes that hug the ceiling at an angle and drape back to left and right either side of the bed. Bishop's sleeve style is interesting,

Maybe some swagged fabric over them could fill the wall and compensate for the headboard's height and visual weight.

Do you need the desk? If not remove it. Do you need the leaning mirror? Each picture you posted looks different. What is staying? I do agree with above, something is just off with the drapes. Why aren't all window treatments the same?

The curtains could be better..but I don't think the bed should be the inspiration piece...your collection of furniture does not really have that theme...you have glam..traditional..modern ..understated taste and the bed is really a dramatic statement piece not the style setter for the room ....to tie in with your sort of eclectic..and tasteful mix...I think the curtains could be as simple as the linen (?) shade on the small window..a counterpoint to the the awesome bed...not competition

I have always loved that bed! You have a lot of chairs in this room! I would have put a pretty settee at the end of the bed. Remove the chairs and put a useful and attractive storage/ console there. I would also get a large and tall cabinet/ armoire for the tv and all your stuff! It would be nice to have a tall piece of furniture on that side of the room to balance it. I don't think your lamps are glamorous enough and I would do roman shades with valances at the windows. Very lovely space and I love your rug.

Beautiful room! I'd just rearrange a bit. Pull the area rug out about 2'. Put your two accent chairs and cute round table at the foot of the bed. Use the "desk" for your tv console. Then, put the bench and large art where the desk was. Leave only the leaning mirror in that corner. Could you try this and retake photos for a little more tweaking? Notice in this photo the rug is pulled out enough to accommodate the chairs. You may need to do this as well...

Darzy...that was the exact image I was going to post!!

.I feel like the draperies are lacking height....I would bring the rod up to where the ceiling starts to angle and add a valance with kick pleats to give it a grand look to match your headboard...

I love the idea of a small settee or two chairs at the end of the bed...

I like the flamboyant stool you have gotten for the end of the bed...adds to the glam of the bed and lets everyone see the fun..not seriousness of the bed..

I am thinking that your curtains should be a crisp white to match the rug. They look very cream colored. I really like the corner with the chair and plant. Not sure why there are 2 benches at the end of your bed? I also think that simple silver base & white lamps would look best as well.
