I agree. Remove the window seat and a large rug would help. If you want contemporary I would re-think the space completely versus just adding or taking away an item or two. Colors, furniture, etc.

That is a nice big room. You can do 2 sofas and 2 chairs, and maybe when you remove the window seat, you can add a chair with a table near the window. Are you doing the complete room: new curtains, painting, rug, furniture, artwork, tv stand, end tables, coffee table, lamps?

The curtains and the window seat have got to go. I agree, rethink the colors that you have in there. Do you really want yellow and purple? For a cozy contemporary look, I would say neutrals, perhaps in warm tones. For curtains, full Belgian textured linens would add a warm dimension to the space.

I think you need to get the rest of the furniture first, then decide if the chair idea really is necessary. It could be two chairs with a table in between, however, don't buy anything for that corner until you furnish the rest of the room.

A rough floor plan would be helpful. Thinking tv might do better on opposite wall...once window seat is gone, if that is your front entrance. Place sofa/sectional with beautiful art above on dark wall
