New grass / overseeding

Hey guys, just planted some 90/10 fescue/ kbg from delta blue grass September 17th and have a couple problems im running into..

First there are a couple areas where the grass is looking semi thin with mild germination. And there is one big area (the side that's gets the most sun ) where there is no germination at all.. The rest of the yard is looking great though..

So my question is can I reseed and overseed? What's the proper way to over seed the thin areas with out damaging the new grass? Or should I wait little more time to see if there is new germination?

Thanks in advance

Reseed NOW if you're going to do it.

    Where do you live?

Did you roll the seed down the first time?

How did you water after seeding? It should have been 3x per day for about 5-10 minutes each time and continue for 3 weeks. Did you do something similar?

I live in Sacramento Ca, . I did roll it in but didn't have any peat moss (got antsy) to cover it. Wish I would of now.. Yes I watered but didn't have a timer and wife forgot to water it once or twice while I was at work .. Could that affect it ? How should I reseed? What process should I do so I don't damage existing new grass sprouts

    SET SOAPBOX ON:

Fescue and KBG are not appropriate grasses for Sacramento. It's the tens of thousands of people like you who are causing the drought in California IMO. Fescue and KBG should be confined to west of the coastal mountain range or higher than 4,000 ft altitude or north of Redding. The two best grasses for Sacramento are hybrid bermuda (full sun) and St Augustine (shade tolerant). Also perfectly adapted is UC Verde buffalo grass for full sun applications.

    SET SOAPBOX OFF:

Since you are going to seed anyway, if you rolled it down then you should not have needed peat moss. It should have been watered 3x per day for 5-15 minutes each time for 3 full weeks. You should have seen 80% germination of the fescue after 2 weeks and 80% germination of the KBG after the 3rd week.

At this point the new grass in the thin area will suffer but be replaced by the brand new grass you're seeding. Seed it like you did before and roll it. If you want to add peat moss, go for it. I would put the peat moss down first and roll the seed down into the peat moss. Grass seed should not be covered. When you water it, water just enough to moisten the peat moss and keep the seed moist. You don't need to make soggy soil. Living in Sacto (I know y'all hate that term like we hate San Antone) you can reseed this into November, but now is the time. Don't wait for spring.
