Help me pick a new kitchen backsplash!

I am about to move into a newly rehabbed home, and want to change the kitchen backsplash because what is already there is very busy next to equally busy granite. Please help me find something new! I am not a big fan of beige so I'd love something to neutralize that a bit (I'm trying to figure out what color to paint the little bit of wall space too). I have been considering larger glass tiles in just one color - is that a good idea? (I've attached a picture of a granite sample next to one idea I have).

I sure love the glass tile as shown. If you have under cabinet lighting with this reflective surface it seems that it would still work. Can you get samples of travertine subway tile to compare as Ironwood Builders suggested. The glass tile might show water spots in food prep areas.

I think the glass tile will be too dark. A travertine subway tile will look better and lighter, not fighting with the cabinets for attention. Back splash as backdrop.

I agree I'd like to see a lighter color from the granite brought up into the backsplash. I wholeheartedly agree, however, that the current backsplash is much too busy for the granite and that your plan for a simple glass tile backsplash is a good one. But I think with wood cabinetry it would lighten up the kitchen to have a lighter backsplash.

I like the glass tiles but I agree they a too dark next to your dark granite and dark cabinets. Another vote for pulling out a lighter colour from the granite

Easy general rule of thumb; busy counter top=quite back splash, quite counter tops =bold back splash, If you are not a fan of beige look for a light grey glass. It will always be neutral and you can paint you walls any color

I would only add to barbiecue's general rule of thumb that it is not a problem going minimalist if your taste leans in that direction (quiet counter and quiet backsplash together), but almost always a problem mixing two busy materials.

Pretty :) I think in the long run you will be glad you didn't pick something that is hard to decorate around when you want an easy paint color update. It will be bright and clean and not fight your granite.
