My favorite African violet

I have had this one since 1999 - I don't remember it being labeled with one at the time.

I meant to say - I don't remember it being labeled with a name when I bought it.

That is gorgeous ... and you have done an amazing job of keeping it alive ...

Do you have other violets ... or is it an only child ???

I love that violet. Very well done! Rosie

I have more. Including Optimara Pennsylvania, Anika and Harlequin. I also have Petticoats 'n' Lace (S. Sorano) and Kimi. Plus a dozen or so NOIDs and 4 months ago I started quite a few leaves - with mixed results.

    LOVE!

    Gorgeous!!!

That is simply beautiful - and not quite like any other I've seen. NOID or not, it's a winner - I'd definitely put down a leaf or two for a back up plant on this one.

    Lovely plant

AnneCecilia is right. When you have an exceptional violet always have a leaf rooting for insurance sake! Rosie

I actually have two of this violet, years ago it had a sucker which was planted. I have tried several times to start a leaf with no luck. The last one was 4 months ago, the leaf is healthy but no babies yet.

Sometimes leaf moms take a while to reproduce. Let me introduce you to my best friend Miss Patience! She will probably tell you just don't think about it and it will eventually happen. In African Violet time,,,,,not people time! Rosie

Are there any violets similar to this in production at any nurseries by chance?

I like the original posters blue better than Music Box Dancer, but it's a good match (in pink).

That violet could be a sister to the blue posted here! What a great similarity! Good eye Irina! But I confess, I do like the blue better name or not! Rosie

I'm wondering if it hasn't photographed a little bit bluer ...

Actually on my computer it is leaning toward a beautiful shade of orchid. Rosie

Beautiful! Again,,,on my computer it is a lovely, awesome shade of orchid! Would love it! Rosie

The actual color of the flower is what I would call a deep blue/purple. Between cameras and computers it is hard to get a real accurate color. With my digital cameras over the years I have found that blues and purples are especially difficult.

    Look what I found ...

    Granger's Electra

    Very nice...I like :)

That looks very much like mine! Anyone have a description of Granger's Electra?

GRANGER'S ELECTRA (Granger) 8029 - Semidouble light purple, wide white edge. Dark green plain pointed quilted red reverse.

    Also, ... GENEVA WONDER ...

Double medium blue large/white edge. Plain. Standard (TX Hybrid)

Definitely not Granger's Electra, the leaves have a green back not red. Geneva Wonder still a possibility, not that I can ever know for sure without the plant being properly labeled. It is fun to speculate though.

Geneva Wonder is royal blue - there is no magenta there.

Royal blue is the perfect description for the color of my violet. My camera and computer screen don't show the color very accurately.

Geneva Wonder has round serrated leaves with a very pronounced veining. The white geneva edge is not as wide as yours. The plant is LARGE. Seriously large. It is marked as a standard - but it is a LARGE standard.

I am sorry - your AV is very beautiful... but seems that between NoName and Who Knows What is the Exact Color... I would call it 'Gorgeous Katy' and let it be...

Thanks for the information. Maybe someday I will actually get a leaf to produce babies and I can share this beautiful violet. This was the last violet I bought for my mom before she passed away, so I have always labeled it "the last African violet I gave to my mom"

Katy,,,sorry about your mom. But I would keep the label you gave it so you will always have that memory! Precious! Rosie

    "Memory of the Heart"
