I have three soil types on the map -- all of them reflect the fact that when I plant bulbs in the fall I can pretty much count on hitting a stone, a boulder, or a channer, i.e. a flat rock -- with the channers in that part of my yard being at 35-60% by volume!

I just moved to Southwestern NC.

According to this soil map I got almost 93% sand. Hmm

I got to add lots of organic matter to improve moisture retention. My options are pine needles and fall leaves. I might also add peat moss and pine bark mulch, if I can find them locally. Those are much better than sand.

I want to know how do you deal with such a high sandy condition. ?
