Just showing off...

I was bragging about my gorgeous surigaoensis this morning - I love how massive and shiny the leaves are...

One to show how BIG the leaves get!...

This has become a favorite, despite the fact that it has yet to bloom. But I wanted to tell anyone who is looking for this fair beauty that our own Marco has a massive one for sale on eBay, ending today, for a mere $24!! I bought mine as a cutting back in 2013 for $15 or $16, so this is a bargain! In case you want to check it out, he sells under cobaltblue474.

What amazes me is how shiny the leaves stay. You know how a lot of Hoyas, as they mature, the leaves become more matte. Not this one! I had it in my cactus clubs show this spring and I got more comments on it than any of the other Hoyas I showed...

When ever i search for hoyas on ebay, marco's listings never show up.... strange

Searching for vendors never works. You have to go to advance searches for vendors. Idkw. Search for Hoya surigaoensis.

Btw, really nice Denise! I love shinny... What's that over there.

Here's a direct link to the surigaoensis. BRS, what's what over where?? LOL!

No, no brsucculents, it's " I do NOT have ADH...is that a chicken?"

Anyhow, beautiful hoya Denise--next to splash I love shiny, but unfortunately I don't have room for this one....I will just love your photos instead :-)

I never search directly for vendors. I type in "hoya plant" and click on newly listed. All the other vendors and people on here who sell plants, I will see their newly listed plants but never marcos.

My surigaoensis is getting lots of sun, none stop flowering for a year and a half. My leaves are not as pretty as your surigaoensis though.

It really seems to make a difference in leaf color and thickness in where they are grown. The ones in the house it seems are always more thin, dark, and delicate. The ones outside in very good light or dappled sun seem to get thicker leaves that are lighter green. Of course there are always the exceptions.

Gorgeous! Denise, that plant is amazing! I have had a mixed bag of luck with cuttings this year (largely due to a number of distractions on my part), but a cutting of surigoaensis I got in a trade has been one of my successes. I look forward to seeing it take off! Can you tell me your light and water details for this one?

I have it in a west window where it gets mostly reflected light off the house next door - hardly any direct sun. It seems quite happy, but has yet to bloom. I water it like most of my Hoyas - try not to let it get too dry, though it can take some dryness. I just love it!

Excellent, I am growing mine just like you are so must be off to a good start. Here is hoping yours blooms for you before long, but in the meanwhile... this is one of those who cares if it blooms Hoyas to me. The leaves are fabulous enough!

The leaves are so pretty, look as if they were polished or had that leaf shine put on them. I had a H. merrillii that had very shinny leaves like that when grown in a north window. If I put it in any brighter light though they would get more matte looking.

Did anyone here get Marco's plant? Are the leaves that shinny too?

I believe somebody here did. When I got that plant, like all the others, the leaves have hard water stains. I wash the leaves with white vinegar or skim milk, then rinse and pat lightly dry with a Kleenex. All the new growth that grew in after, produced those 6 and 7 inch shiny green leaves and it was all mother natures work AND direct west sunshine, the more the better for this one.

I will have to try that Marcos, water spots on my plants are annoying. I have leaf shine but I am not a fan of the stuff.

Also, checked my notes and I was mistaken, I do not have surigoaensis (yet). My newcomer is pentaphlebia, but it is still a lovely Hoya.

Yes it is Kim, I have a nice one of those as well that took a lot of vinegar to clean those big beautiful leaves. It has similar large rather mis-shapen leaves that harden that way in maturity. I find it more compact than my suri's, though.
