Is this room complete?

Do these pillows go with the chairs? Is the white throw on the chair ok or should I get one with a color?

It looks good. What about a bright saturated yellow throw on the back of the chair?

I love everything except the pillows. They look off, especially the print ones. What about replacing them with a b&w print? Maybe the solid blue would then work, but I suspect a brighter color would be better for them.

I like it! It is calm and soothing. The pillow colors pulled from the art looks nice.

I think the couch, art, and pillows work well together, but there seems to be a bit of a disconnect between those items and the black lamps and black/white chairs.

I think it looks nice. The only thing I might change is the printed pillows. I don't think you need to change the throw color. I like your monochromatic look.

I think it lacks a little personality. I would throw in something unexpected!
should I return all those pillows? I wanted to bring some color to that room, not sure what work. I will be replacing lamp shades.
Your room is really nice. But, you feel "something" is missing or else you would not have posted on this site. What I find missing is the "personal" touch - items with your history, or travels, or quaint "loves" of yours, etc. The yellow flowers are nice - perhaps some more yellow?
I like the yellow pillows you posted better than the blue!
Love the new pillow choices. I want to echo what the above commenter stated: just add some of your personal stuff and it will be great! I also think a little natural wood somewhere really warms a place up. Maybe just a wood tray on the coffee table with a few items in it.

I love the second set of pillows. How about some solid color lumbar pillows for the busy chairs to break it up a bit?

should i do yellow lumbar pillows for the chairs???
    Beautiful room. Good job!

I just want to say with regard to the space lacking "personality"- I'm one of those people who likes a more streamlined, simple look. If you don't like picture frames, knick knacks, or whatever else, then don't feel compelled to put them in your space. You're the one living there. For what it's worth, I like the yellow pillows but omitting a patterned one and instead playing with textured yellow pillows.

I've just been watching this post and you have a beautiful room. I'm trying to learn about accessories too so the attached photos are just some things I found shopping Houzz as relates to bringing in yellow gold and a bolster for chairs, as suggested by others. Your idea book has some fun colors that would look great in your room as well. Sorry, I have not figured out how to simply cut and paste link to Houzz products on my iPad.

Just do a screenshot, Frosted, or save to ideabook on your homepage.

Yes, that is what I have been doing but I figured out how to add an item. Yea! :)

I thought you did a great job on the adding!

Yellow lumbar would be nice, but its kind of matchy matchy. Maybe the yellow pillows and two other mixed color pillows on the sofa and then use one of those colors for the chairs. You might be able to find a mixed color pillow that is not a print that has more texture.

I like your room the way it is- love that the pillows do not completely match with the chairs.
    Do not change a thing!

One thing to consider is that since your main neutrals are pretty clean (white sofa, B&W chairs), your accent color typically should be "cleaner," such as a brighter yellow, not muted. However, your walls look like they have a pink undertone, so yellow is not going to be the best with them. I liked the original solid blue pillows, but think you need to repeat the color more. It looks like you have blue in your art. Bring in books for your coffee table with blues, and even your lamps could benefit by a couple of big books under them to give them height. Perhaps you can find some pillows with a subtle pattern of black, white and dark blue?

Yellow pillows look great! I think the room looks really nice.

My wall color is Revere pewter from Benjamin Moore. It looks a bit different on the picture.
    Would this work??
I will change 2 middle pillows maybe to these 2
  • 9 years ago

I feel like there is too much delicate pattern going on... chairs, artwork, pillows. Solid or bold design pillows will break it up.

Throw pillows are an easy way to bring different feels to your room. Everything matches so well that it will be easy to change with different seasons. How expensive is it to buy a couple throw pillows to change out? Citron, lime, coral or white for summer. Red or olive for Christmas. Gold, orang or a course weave for fall. It is a very welcoming room.

I like all yr changes. I think the blue solid pillow would go very well on yr accent chair.

Lovely room! Another option. You would need just 2 on the sofa & 2 lumbars on the chairs. A different look again.

Wow!! I can do so much with this room!!!

Love the yellow pillows that you selected for the sofa. Do like the wood piece on coffee table that frostedsleet suggested.

My biggest problem is the end tables are too low and that makes the lamps look too tiny. If you can't change out end tables i would look for taller lamps. Color assessment on line is not good so just do pillows and throw with tones from your wall art piece. I would keep it quiet. The yellow might be too brilliant against the calm tones of the painting. Go blue gray tones might work. Is the chair fabric cream and brown or cream and black.

Tip: end tables are best when they are height of arms of sofa. The arms of your sofa are very high so it exaggerates your problem in this case. If you can't change tables could you change sofa and find something with lower arms?
I can't change my sofa and chairs. My chairs are black and white. I just need to pull this room together with cushions and accents.
The chairs are fighting with your artwork. I think you need something less detailed and more Rothko-like (not saying you should get a Rothko print, just something with a big block of color). Taller, more sculptural lamps would also improve the space.

The glass and metal end table works! Could you get another one of those? That height is good and the lighter look is great. If not, try putting a couple books under the other lamp to raise it up to be roughly level with the other lamp. Since the chairs are black and white, keep pillows with black and white and a soft blue gray from painting. A soft blue gray throw on your chair and perhaps some small gold accessory for your coffee table and done. I will post some ideas for you. Be back.

These black and white stripes would bring your chairs and the sofa together and bring a chic look to your space. Then, a small silver-ish tray to set that little plant on along with perhaps a small book (we like things in 3s) would finish the coffee table nicely.

A look along these lines, but with your blues. The print blue pillows are better than the solid ones.

These are small but very inexpensive. I think the Champagne would be good. It is a cross between gold and silver. These are from ZGallerie and on line they are like under $15. they are small, only about 6x12" but, if you get much bigger they start to really go up in price. You might "shop in your house" perhaps you have a tray of some kind for your vanity? Or something someone gave you for Christmas you have never used. Hunt around! With a small tray, your little flower arrangement, and perhaps a book, that is the 3 items you need for your coffee table.
