Unless you are a flippers, what do you care what is popular? If you are a flipper and don't know your market, then you've already lost money on the project.

Buy purple recessed panel doors if that is what you like and you are gonna live there.

Door/drawer style popularity varies by region. In my region a white/off-white painted shaker style is the most popular. Over the past 10 years at least 70% of our kitchens have been some variant of this. When stained woods are desired they tend to be birch or walnut with a medium depth stain on a recessed panel door/drawer or a not to embellished raised panel door/drawer. Having said this, I try to design based upon what best suits the home and it's overall decorating scheme, the kitchen has to connect with it's surrounding.
