I love your current kitchen! IMHO it's nicer than your inspiration photo. Of course it's just personal choice - but, wondering if a lighter backsplash, walls painted lighter, and new/more lighting might make things brighter in the room.

Wow! There couldn't be two more diverse comments as those above. I think your cabinets are beautiful. Are you sure you want to completely change it all? I would repaint the walls and get a backsplash that highlights the current cabinets and black granite.
All the white and grey kitchens are stunning, but they are just another trend.... Soon enough people will be looking for dark wood again!

I'd get a sample of a cabinet painted your intended color before settling on a backsplash -- you want to think in terms of the overall effect rather than just picking individual products that you like.

I like the idea of lightening the cabinets and walls. I don't think the brown tiles go with the black counters, but you certainly could go with colored backsplash once the cabinets are painted. It will also be easier to find which tile goes with the kitchen, once the cabinets are actually done.
